Our company is going to install some equipment that requires hydrochloric acid, and I have been assigned the task of handling the bidding process as well as the management of the tanks used for storing this acid. All I know about storing hydrochloric acid is that fiberglass tanks can be used for this purpose; does anyone among you know of any other suitable materials for such storage tanks? Also, I don’t know much about fiberglass storage tanks. Could fellow sailors provide some information on them?

If the pressure and temperature are not high, fiberglass can be chosen, or carbon steel lined with rubber is an option as well ; If the temperature is high, carbon steel linings such as F4 or F46 should be considered ; Of course, Hastelloy can also be chosen.

Small and medium-sized hydrochloric acid storage tanks can also be made of rigid PVC or PP; for larger tanks, fiberglass is considered more reliable.
At 90 degrees, is heat insulation still necessary? Otherwise, the alternating temperature changes are too much for non-metallic materials to handle.
If the temperature and concentration are not very high, glass-lined materials can be considered.
Hydrochloric acid storage tanks can use carbon steel lined equipment. Fiberglass-reinforced plastic equipment is preferred, with hand-laid fabrication being the best option. There have been cases in power plants where mechanically manufactured fiberglass-reinforced plastic tanks suffered from corrosion and leaks; therefore, such tanks are generally used with caution in power systems, as leak points in fiberglass-reinforced plastic materials are difficult to locate.
