At the beginning, screw pumps were mainly used to drive filter presses in wastewater treatment, but they were gradually phased out over time. More and more people started using diaphragm pumps instead. In my opinion, screw pumps can handle materials containing particles without any problems; however, after prolonged use, the stator suffers significant wear, which reduces efficiency. The main reason is that when the filter press is compressing sludge, the system resistance increases, leading to a rise in liquid temperature and making it easier for mechanical seals to get damaged. Diaphragm pumps, on the other hand, stop automatically when the system resistance becomes too high. Hehe, it’s just my personal opinion.
As long as it is a fluid being transported, the movement of solid particles in the liquid inevitably causes wear on the equipment; the stator can be made of other materials, not necessarily rubber.
