I have a question for everyone: I have methanol material with a flow rate of 5 m3/h that needs to be pressurized from atmospheric pressure to 6 MP. The required pump head is calculated to be over 700 units (I’m still a student and don’t have any engineering experience; it seems like a very high value, haha). After checking relevant data, I found that the maximum pump head available is only around 200 units. So, how is this achieved in practice? Thank you all for offering some suggestions; I am extremely grateful
Firstly, they can work well when pumped and used in series. Pumps of the same model can be connected in series. There are also high-head pumps – didn’t you find any information on those? Check it out in the post
A multi-stage pump will suffice; there is no need to use two pumps in series. A reciprocating pump can also be used.
I was wondering: are pumps with a head of 700 units common? Are they quite large? I have no idea about this at all. Could you recommend some manufacturers’ websites? I would be very grateful
When a high head is required, pumps can certainly be used in series, but it is necessary to adjust the flow rate of each pump so that both pumps reach their operating points as much as possible. Regarding the owner’s question, positive-displacement pumps such as piston pumps and screw pumps can also be used to achieve a higher head, but the material properties of the fluid in question must also be taken into consideration.
700 isn’t that big; it should be quite common...
Pumps with a head of 700 meters do exist; using pumps in series is an option, and it’s best if the first pump has a higher flow rate, otherwise the second pump is prone to running dry.
But the maximum head of pumps I’ve found is only a little over 200 meters. Could there be an issue with my understanding? For example, if the volumetric flow rate under my operating conditions is half of that of the pumps listed in the pump catalog, should the head correspondingly double? I’m not sure if this understanding is correct?
Choose a high-speed pump with low flow rate and high head; this type of pump is quite common; Do not choose two pumps in series; theoretically it is possible, but this is not done in actual production.
Series connection can increase the range, but there are certain limitations
It is particularly suitable for applications with low inlet pressure.
