According to the standard height of floating-head heat exchanger supports, this height is usually about 5 mm shorter than the distance between the sealing surfaces of the lower pipe flanges on the shell and the tube sheet. As a result, the heat exchanger support cannot come into direct contact with the ground; instead, it is the pipe sealing surfaces that make contact with the ground, which is very inconvenient. During transportation and storage, shims must be used to raise the bottom plate of the support, otherwise the flange sealing surfaces are likely to get damaged. It is proposed to modify the standard by increasing the distance between the support base plate and the lower part of the housing by approximately 10–20 mm.
The dimensions specified in the standards take extreme overlap situations into account, and individual floating-head heat exchangers are not required to follow them. Except for the models specified by the user, as the manufacturer is likely to be unaware whether they are intended for overlap.
It sometimes happens that the flange surface is higher than the saddle surface; in such cases, we usually place something under the saddle. We generally follow the customer’s requirements
