Every time hydrogen content in chlorine from diaphragm electrolyzers is measured, a liquid resembling pus-like mucus flows out of the sampling port. This liquid makes the hands feel greasy, and it adheres to the measuring tube of the equipment used to determine hydrogen content in chlorine as well as to the explosion-proof ball; only concentrated sulfuric acid can barely remove some of it. The measuring tube has to be cleaned after each sample is taken, which is quite troublesome. Does anyone knowledgeable know what this liquid is and how to clean it? Thank you. # hcbbs
Tung oil. If you use tung oil combined with talc or other fillers for sealing, then this substance is tung oil. Tung oil not only appears in this area but also enters the chlorine treatment system, where it can clog the plate heat exchangers in the chlorine washing tower. Therefore, one must be very careful with the sealing material used for sealed electrolytic cells, and ensure that it does not end up inside the cell. The chlorine outlet should preferably be designed in the form of inner and outer tubes similar to those of a drain, which facilitates sealing and prevents large amounts of sealing material from entering the anode chamber.
