There are two popular sayings at New Oriental School: “For whom are you working?” ”And “Have you grown today?” ” 　　For whom are you working? 　　Just starting out – avoid impatience ； Take the long way – be wise: Please don’t work for your boss; work for yourself ； 　　Please don’t work for your salary; work for your own abilities ； 　　Please don’t work for today’s job; work for the career of your dreams. 　　Your future does not depend on your salary, but on your abilities ； Because even if your salary doubles, you won’t become rich; and the only ways to become rich, aside from winning the lottery or making speculative profits in the stock market, are through your own abilities. Relying on your salary, you will live in a passive state your whole life; relying on your abilities, you will eventually reach the summit of success. 　　If you pursue a satisfactory salary wholeheartedly, you may become dissatisfied with it, complain, and even engage in scheming, ultimately losing the opportunity to showcase your talents and improve your skills amid those complaints. Moreover, even if you end up getting this salary, what will you do with it? Can your life change a lot? No. A person who pursues only money will not have a rich spiritual world, so his life will remain rather empty and plain. A money-oriented lifestyle always brings worries over small amounts of money and gets one tripped up by them. 　　If you are striving to improve your abilities in order to make a difference in a few years or even a decade or so from now, then please ask yourself often this question: What is my lifelong goal? Please also ask yourself one question every day: Am I closer to my goal today? If you do this, it shows that you understand the importance of building up over time before acting, and that you have a long-term perspective. Ability is the best investment; the longer it is invested in, the greater the returns. The legend of Shi Yuzhu tells us that wealth may be lost, but the ability to create wealth will ensure that one can ultimately stand triumphant in the world. 　　Some say: Training is the best benefit. How to understand it? Since training is aimed at improving employees’ capabilities, an improvement in their skills is the best reward for them. 　　Have you grown today? 　　Don’t be happy just because today’s work was easy; be happy because you grew today ； Don’t be happy about succeeding at slacking off at work today, because you are actually being eliminated. We should ask ourselves a question every day: What do I have today? 　　From sunrise to sunset, a day passes in this way; time is that simple. If time is a cost, then what is our income today? Is it the growth of knowledge, the deepening of friendships, progress in one’s career, the accumulation of insights, or just the daily wage, or perhaps a sigh: Another day has passed! Often, we are unaware of the cost of time, so we end up wasting the day without any sense of guilt, and without any plan for how to spend it. If we consider time as an investment, then there is no doubt that our income budget should have been prepared by today. When every day is planned in advance and there is a standard by which to measure achievements, then each day brings a sense of accomplishment. Although plans often fall short of changes, in times of stability they serve as a basis for organization, and when changes occur, they act as a guide for taking action. Anyway, if growth is to be meaningful, it is quite necessary to develop a reasonable plan. 　　Work for yourself, help yourself grow, take responsibility for yourself – please choose to view your work from a positive perspective.
