Problems with the passivation of hydrogenation reactors?

Why must the bed temperature be reduced below 100 degrees before passivation can take place in a hydrogenation reactor?
This post was last edited by adsl121 on 2009-9-4 09:15. A large amount of heat is generated during passivation – is it high-temperature passivation? The catalyst is basically useless now!
The passivation reaction is exothermic; if passivation occurs at high temperatures, it becomes difficult to control the temperature, and poor control can easily lead to overheating, thereby damaging the catalyst.
