Can fillet welds be fully penetrated? It’s not an absolute issue – sometimes they can be penetrated and sometimes they cannot; this mainly depends on the thickness of the base metal plate as well as the shape of the weld gap. When the base metal is thin, or when it is thick but a double V-shaped gap is used, full penetration is possible!!
