The discharge of the condensate from high-pressure ammonium methoxide condensers can be done either continuously or intermittently. Continuous discharge is used to prevent the accumulation of chloride ions, which could cause stress corrosion in the equipment; but what is the purpose of intermittent discharge? I would appreciate advice from those with experience in this field
Continuous drainage and intermittent drainage are terms used for steam boilers. Continuous drainage is implemented to prevent the concentration of salts, which could lead to scaling and tube failure; the amount of water drained through continuous drainage is roughly 3% of the total water volume. Intermittent drainage is used to remove harmful substances that are less dense than water and float on the surface of the liquid, with the interval between such drainage operations determined by technicians. The high-temperature cooler is essentially also a type of steam boiler, and both continuous/intermittent drainage methods are employed to control the accumulation of harmful components, namely CL ions. When there are many CL ions, they must be removed regardless of the drainage method used; if there aren’t many CL ions, it seems sufficient to simply carry out drainage, as the pipes used for intermittent drainage do not extend up to the surface of the liquid. There are no specific requirements regarding piping in this case, as this is merely for reference.
If the continuous emission amount is relatively large, there is no need for intermittent emission. Conversely, if the continuous emission is low, it is advisable to emit intermittently at regular intervals. However, it is recommended to determine a relatively fixed and appropriate continuous discharge rate by controlling the amount of continuous discharge and analyzing the chloride ions in the low-pressure drum; there is no need for intermittent discharge to facilitate operation.
