Our turbine condenser tubes have been leaking recently, and we are discussing whether to replace them from copper tubes to stainless steel tubes. I would appreciate it if experienced sea travelers could advise me on whether this is feasible and what precautions should be taken.
What is the heat exchange area of the surface cooler? What is the amount of condensed steam? For stainless steel pipes, approximately 18–20 square meters of heat exchange area is required per ton of steam. Check whether the original heat exchange area is sufficient.
This issue can be resolved by replacing the tubes on-site; many turbines used for producing large amounts of nitrogen fertilizer are handled in this way. We did the same thing with our oxidation furnace waste heat boiler; it was replaced after 12 years, and the results were good. You can give it a try! First of all, let me say we’re not that guy!
So which type of tube should be used? The heat transfer coefficients of stainless steel straight tubes and corrugated tubes are somewhat lower than those of copper tubes. Is it necessary to increase the circulating water flow after replacing the tubes? What is the service life of corrugated tubes?
It is recommended that you use stainless steel pipes, but you need to calculate the heat load in order to determine the appropriate area.
Stainless steel tubes or naval copper should be used; due to their better heat exchange properties, stainless steel tubes provide a heat exchange area that is about 10% larger than that of copper. It should be noted that European companies or foreigners often use a cleanliness factor when calculating the heat exchange area; And using the fouling coefficient for calculation tends to be more accurate. The two formulas are different! ! !
