Applying to become a registered engineer?

I graduated in Chemical Engineering and Technology, and since then I have been working in front-line production at a large ammonia synthesis plant for 4 years now. I applied for the Certified Safety Engineer exam this year, hoping to pass it. However, after taking the exam, I still want to take more exams for registered engineers in order to obtain more certifications. I wonder what other programs I could apply for in my situation? ? ? ? The registration requirement for chemical engineers applies to designers, but I am a field worker at a chemical production facility – can I still apply?
I hope some expert will step forward to help answer this: what exactly does it mean to work at a design firm? Is it necessary for the workplace to be a design institute?
