When the operating temperature of the gasifier is too low, or when operational instability such as wind tunnels or channeling occurs, the oxygen available for combustion reactions cannot be fully utilized; as a result, oxygen penetrates through the coal layer and mixes with the crude coal gas to enter the subsequent system. Oxygen breakthrough represents a serious safety hazard, as it can cause overheating in the shift reactors in the subsequent system, and even lead to explosion accidents. Be very careful during the operation.
