There are many toxic and harmful substances, posing a serious threat to the health of construction workers.
The main issue is the poor temperature sensitivity of coal tar pitch: it tends to become viscous and flow easily at high temperatures. It becomes brittle at low temperatures. However, compared to petroleum asphalt, coal tar pitch has better adhesion to gravel.
