The liquid level serves as a seal, preventing the medium inside the system from leaking outside under normal operating pressures; at the same time, it prevents overpressure from occurring in the event of system abnormalities, as there would be no protective measures in such cases. In other words, when the system pressure becomes excessively high, the water seal may break and allow fluid to escape – this is what is meant by positive and negative water seals; The negative pressure water seal does the exact opposite: it maintains a low pressure within the system under normal conditions, but when an abnormality occurs and the pressure drops too low, the system draws in air from the outside through the water seal to compensate, thereby preventing the system from becoming a vacuum that could lead to damage to equipment or pipes!
For some pipes with a larger DN, such valves may need to be custom-made, and the cost will naturally be high. However, by using a liquid seal, this problem can be solved quite easily at a lower cost
