What are the regulations regarding the thickness of baffle plates in the GB151 heat exchanger standard? Strength or stiffness? If it is made of stainless steel, should it be thinned out a bit?
It meets the stiffness requirements; it has not been thinned.
It must be the stiffness; it’s too thin. The baffle, having to bear the weight of the tube bundle, will deform, which affects tube insertion. We generally follow the standard regulations; for things like thinning, one has to bear the consequences if problems arise.
It is mainly a matter of stiffness; the function of the baffle is to support the tube bundle and reduce its vibration. Tubes in a too-thin bundle vibrate severely, and in severe cases this could lead to the tubes breaking. Generally, the thickness should not be reduced.
There are two purposes for installing baffle plates: one is to increase the flow time of the medium in the shell layer, thereby allowing for more thorough contact and better heat transfer; One is to support the tube bundle in order to prevent excessive vibration from damaging it. The recommended values in GB151 are determined based on stiffness calculations; if you want to thin the tube bundle, further calculations are necessary. This is just my personal opinion
