Where are I/O modules usually placed? Are they generally installed on-site, that is, in a remote location?
It is usually placed inside the I/O cabinet, next to the controller cabinet; for systems with a small number of inputs/outputs, the I/O cards are installed directly on the controller unit. The remote one is located within the on-site I/O cabinet, connected to the controller via an optical cable and a communication card!
Most are placed in cabinets in the control room; remote IO cabinets are also a possibility
To save on cables, they are left on-site, including the controllers; these are then connected to the server and operation stations via communication methods. However, for ease of maintenance, we usually install them in a central control room.
It depends on the design requirements of the system. Systems with a smaller number of points are usually placed in the same cabinet as the controller, while those with a larger number of points can have an I/O cabinet added; this I/O cabinet can be located either alongside the main control cabinet or in a different location, connected to it through optical cables.
