But the fundamental difference lies in the higher requirements regarding the levels of P and S; since steel used for containers needs to have better toughness, elements like P and S, which can cause cold or hot brittleness in materials, must be strictly controlled. In the new steel plate standard GB713-2007, the upper limits for P and S in 16MnR are 0.025 and 0.015 respectively. The poster can check against the structural steel standards to see the differences
There’s no more 16MnR these days; it’s all Q345R now.
