The seal of the agitator in the polymerization reactor is sealed under pressure using soft water, but the soft water cannot be recycled; why is the temperature of the seal high? (The soft water inlet has no pump; circulation relies entirely on the seal itself.)

Our factory is currently using 70m³ polymerization reactors manufactured by Jinxi Chemical; these reactors employ mechanical seals that use soft water. The seal water flows directly into the reactor – how can it be recycled? For discharge pumps and transfer pumps, the seal water can be recovered, but it cannot be reused. The reasons are as follows: 1. When the seal is damaged during use, the recovered seal water will contain oil and resin powder. 2. Using a mechanical seal water system containing resin powder can affect the service life of the mechanical seals in other pumps. 3. Both the rinsing water and the water added during the reaction process should be soft water from the soft water tank. If soft water containing resin powder enters the reactor, secondary polymerization will occur, affecting product quality. So generally, it does not return to the soft water tank, but rather to the dry mother liquor tank
2# 45305446 is not the case. My device is an experimental polymerization reactor, which has a soft water tank (containing cooling coils). The soft water tank is connected to the machine seal via two pipes, one corresponding to the inlet and the other to the outlet of the machine seal. The manufacturer did not include a circulation pump in the design. According to the manufacturer, the rotation of the mechanical seal acts as a pump, creating a pressure difference between the inlet and outlet; the seal water can thus be circulated, cooled in the soft water tank, and reused. We also use this method for the machine seals of our liquid ring compressors, but the rotation speed of liquid ring compressors is much higher than that of the agitators in polymerization reactors. Is it the insufficient rotation speed that prevents the soft water from circulating in the mechanical seal?
The seal water can actually be collected, filtered and cooled before being reused.
1. Reason for using soft water: PVC polymerization reactors that are not used for experiments now use water stations instead of oil stations. This is because using soft water can effectively address the negative effect of oil leakage into the polymerization reactor, which leads to an increase in low-molecular-weight particles, while also reducing operating costs. 2. There are requirements for the soft water used in machine seals, including the flow rate and temperature of the soft water ; Typically, the seal water uses a closed-loop system: a seal water pump is installed to maintain the inlet pressure and flow rate of the seal water, while a seal water cooler (using industrial water for cooling) is used to control the temperature of the seal water ; Can the requirements for the water used in the kettle seal be met by using gravity flow? This is one of the key factors determining whether the machine seal water can circulate. 3. Another key factor regarding whether the seal water can be recycled is that, when the seal is damaged (without being replaced), it may lead to contamination of the seal water. Therefore, in systems where the seal water is at risk of contamination, it is necessary to consider installing a precision filter at the outlet of the seal water pipe to ensure the safety of the seal.

As the moderator, it’s best to use a circulation pump; after all, the rotation speed of the stirrer is limited, which is not conducive to the circulation of the seal water. Poor circulation of seal water can easily lead to damage to the seals.
