It should be a small trial. Personally, I feel that the challenge of amplification comes from dynamic process issues, whether it is mass transfer or heat transfer. So compared to large, small is always easier to optimize.
The production yield is high because the loss rate in the material transfer and separation process is greater in small experiments.
