It is due to the large valves: when the valve is shut down and before maintenance, after the valve disc is closed, the water in the valve and its connected pipelines must first be drained. At this point, there is still some water inside the valve body that is at a higher level than the drainage level of the pipelines, and this water cannot be drained. Therefore, a plug at the bottom of the valve is needed, which can be removed to allow water to be drained, thereby ensuring that all the water inside the valve assembly, pipelines, and the valve body itself is completely removed.
