How can this filter be so large? What is its flow rate? It has a diameter of 3.4 meters; and with such a large size, how is it possible to replace the filtering elements?
The usual maximum diameter is 3.2 meters; a 3.4-meter diameter represents only an increase of 200 mm, which is nothing special. It’s sufficient to ensure proper water distribution at the top and at the bottom, and to avoid any deviation in flow during operation as well as during backwashing. The largest activated carbon filters I’ve seen had a diameter of 5 meters; they were part of the reclaimed water reuse system installed by Blue Star Company at Taiyuan Iron and Steel Company. The specific operating conditions of these filters aren’t entirely clear, but since they can be used in actual projects, there should be no problems with them.
