If it is a slurry or has suspended particles, a mortar pump should be used. If a high head is required, a multi-stage pump is required. When used on a pipeline, a pipeline pump is required. If the suction range is required, a self-priming pump is used. A submersible pump is used to absorb liquid from an underground tank. A magnetic pump or canned pump is used to prevent leakage. Select the pump material according to the corrosiveness of the medium.

For pumps, alarms or process interlocks must also be considered.
