Please ask fellow users to provide examples of square-hole openings (preferably in the form of images), and explain the necessity of such holes. And indicate the operating conditions. 2. Please also have Haiyou summarize the disadvantages of square holes from various aspects such as usage, welding, and stress. A large reward is available if the above response is met.

It’s generally not done this way; doing so would likely lead to stress concentration issues. The welding requirements at the corners are too high. If connecting irregular-shaped pipes, would it be possible to use round holes combined with square shapes to create a round shape?

It is mainly a problem of stress concentration; square openings have not been seen in pressure pipes. However, square openings are quite common in non-standard equipment. I think creating a square opening is simpler than creating a circular one; once a square shape is converted to a circular one, it can be connected to a circular tube.
Creating square holes in pipes is pointless; moreover, such holes cause stress concentration at the right angles, whether due to the parent pipe or welding, which in turn reduces the strength and stiffness of the parent pipe.

Make a round hole and then weld on a pipe that goes from round to square; this helps avoid stress concentration, so it’s better not to make it square

Stress concentration – and then, why did the original poster drill square holes in the pipe? It’s awkward; is there really a need to use flanged connectors as a transition?

What is the use of drilling square holes in pipes? Especially with heat pipes, the square holes don’t last long
