What are the differences between large-scale urea production plants and small-scale ones, especially in terms of operating techniques and processes? Are these differences significant? I have only worked with small-scale plants; I hope those with more experience can share their insights.
The main difference lies in the production capacity; the process principles and operating methods are basically the same. It can open small or large.
As the saying goes, \"Even a sparrow has all the vital organs.\" Regardless of size, the principles and procedures remain the same. Having gone through this experience myself, I find that larger devices are more stable and easier to operate than smaller ones!
In terms of operation, there is basically no difference; the only difference is that the large pumps have been changed from reciprocating type to centrifugal type, with steam turbines being introduced. Larger units have lower investment per ton of production; due to economies of scale, their overall costs are somewhat lower.

It features large-scale installations, a single production line, simple processes, high-quality equipment; shutdowns result in significant losses. The site is clean, with gardens surrounding the installations, ditches that are completely clear, zero emissions, no ammonia smell, high standards, strict and organized management, high requirements for operations. Employees are required to have “three understandings and four skills.” Especially in state-owned enterprises, there is a positive atmosphere, good employee benefits, high confidence among staff, and low staff turnover. It’s difficult to get hired there, while the control room, employee rest rooms, beverage areas, and dressing rooms all meet high standards.
