Process design: Elbows and bends

During process design and piping, are there any regulations and guidelines regarding when to use elbows and when to bend the pipes directly?
Under normal circumstances, for pipes smaller than 2", elbow fittings are preferred as they can be bent on-site; if there is not enough space, tees are used instead. For pipes larger than 2", tees are the preferred choice.
Are there any standard recommendations, applicable conditions, or scope guidelines for elbows and curved pipes? Besides being related to diameter, are working pressure and working temperature also factors that come into play?
I’m also confused; there’s a project that requires elbow pipes, but no standards exist for them. Could some expert give me some advice?
