What processes are used for the production of butyl octyl alcohol in China, and what are the hydrogenation catalysts used?
Currently, the main method for producing octanol in the world is the Grignard synthesis method, which is primarily a patented technology of DAVY/DOW. In this liquid-phase recycling process, two reactors are connected in series, and the reaction products and catalyst are separated outside the reactors through slurry circulation and evaporation. The separated catalyst is then returned to the reactor, thereby enabling the optimization of the operation and separation in the imine synthesis system. Optimal reaction conditions were selected for each of the two reactors, thereby increasing the conversion and selectivity of propylene and reducing the amount of gas circulated. As a result, the liquid layer in the reactors is not occupied by a gas foam layer, and the production capacity of the reactors increases as well. By separating them day by day, the separation of the catalyst can take place at lower temperatures and pressures; this results in less damage to the catalyst and helps extend its service life. There is no need to install separate catalyst regeneration equipment. Inside the device, the deactivated catalytic part can be activated and regenerated on-site in a simple and cost-effective manner. The liquid and gaseous fuels produced in the device can be used in other devices, thereby recovering energy and reducing the emission of waste substances. The catalyst for the main synthesis reaction is prepared in batches in the catalyst mixing tank (280-Y-1110). By dissolving the solid parent catalyst and triphenylphosphine in iron-free liquid butanol, a catalyst solution can be obtained. The parent catalyst and triphenylphosphine are fed into the catalyst feed hopper (280-Y-1109), which is equipped with a discharge device (C280-M-1104). The catalyst and triphenylphosphine in the feed hopper (280-Y-1109) are then sent to the catalyst mixing tank C280-Y-1110. The stirrer of the tank towel (280…M-1103) ensures that the solid catalyst and triphenylphosphine are rapidly and thoroughly dissolved in liquid butane. The catalyst mixing tank is equipped with a steam jacket system to provide the heat required for preparing the catalyst. After the catalyst is prepared, the self-prepared oxidant solution is fed into the catalyst storage tank C280-T-1501) using the catalyst mixing pump C280-P-1109).
