Recently, during installation at our facility, several gear pumps were installed in the wrong direction. However, the motor cables have already been laid in place. If the pumps are rotated in the opposite direction, the cables will not be long enough. Our engineers asked the electricians to reverse the connection of the motor wires in order to make the pumps rotate in the opposite direction, but it is indicated on the pump heads that they must not be rotated without load. Could experts please explain whether this approach is acceptable? By the way, does the motor have a difference between forward and reverse rotation? What are the disadvantages of reversal? It doesn’t matter whether the motor rotates forward or backward; what cannot rotate in the reverse direction is the working chamber, and this is related to the design of the manufacturer – for example, rotating in the reverse direction may cause the rotor to fall off.
Gear pumps require lubrication to operate, and they must not run idle.

It depends on the specific design of the pump; if the suction chamber and the discharge chamber are the same, reversing the pump by swapping its inlet and outlet ports can also work. The form of the pump cannot be changed, but the inlet and outlet pipelines can.
LZ has already arranged the position. I don’t want to make any changes either. It is generally not possible to reverse a gear pump; from the perspective of its structure, the oil inlet and outlet chambers are identical, so reversal is allowed. But the pump body usually has a pressure regulator valve (to adjust the maximum outlet pressure and protect the pump). If it needs to be operated in reverse, the pressure regulator valve must be reinstalled with the inlet and outlet directions reversed. Remember this, definitely remember it. Using it this way is the same as the regular method.
We don’t know the structure of the gear pump at our gas station; once again, the pressure wouldn’t build up. The manufacturer suggested trying to reverse its rotation, and sure enough, it worked! Haha, in principle it’s actually not possible to reverse it.
The 8th floor is the correct answer. It’s possible to reverse it, but the safety valve must be adjusted accordingly. I have done this before and there were no problems.
