In low-temperature methanol washing, there is a device called the ammonia-cooled heat exchanger oil collection tank. What is its purpose? What is the speed at which liquid ammonia in the ammonia cooler enters the oil collection tank? What is the sludge from oil collection tanks, and how is it handled?
In fact, it is a separation tank that is connected to the shell side of the ammonia cooler and located at a lower elevation than the ammonia cooler. When oil discharge is not required, it remains connected to the shell side of the ammonia cooler; thanks to the difference in specific gravity between oil and liquid ammonia, the oil is collected in this tank. When oil needs to be discharged, it is isolated from the ammonia cooler before being released
The oil collector not only serves to heat and drain oil but also removes the water contained in liquid ammonia, thereby enabling the ammonia cooler to cool the solution more effectively. It functions as a separator; however, some substances need to be heated in order to be separated.
