I would like to ask what are the differences between quench oil and quench water in a catalytic cracking unit?

They are all used as riser terminators, functioning to reduce the temperature at the riser outlet and suppress secondary cracking reactions in the riser. Oil or water can be used, depending on the specific conditions of each factory; however, when oil is used, the flow rate can be twice that of when water is used
As terminators for the reaction riser, there is not much difference, but they should be used differently depending on the operating conditions of the distillation column. When the vapor pressure of the overhead gas in the fractionation tower is low and the operating pressure is high, using quench water can easily cause water to accumulate on the overhead trays, leading to tower flooding.
