Adding salts such as calcium chloride serves to change the relative volatility of ethanol and water, and can even eliminate the azeotrope. May I ask in what form should salts be added during the simulation (as pure solids or dissolved in some solvent)? What to choose for the thermodynamic approach? Are there any references I can consult for solid simulation processing? In fact, anything related to solids is challenging; thermodynamics is well-developed in the context of gases and liquids, but it’s not as advanced when it comes to solids. Salt-added distillation is not only a batch process but also a continuous one; salt can be added at the reflux point, either as solid salt or as a salt solution. The salt solution is taken out from the bottom of the tower and then recovered through evaporation. I can handle the evaporation and recovery part myself. My main problem is that I’m not clear on how, in Aspen, the effect of salt on volatility can be represented. Extraction distillation is similar to salt-added distillation in that volatility is altered through the liquid-liquid interaction coefficient; however, once a solid is used, things change completely
Why isn’t anyone discussing this in these past two days? I’ve been trying to solve it, but I haven’t succeeded yet
