Our plant uses blast furnaces to process high-lead slag. Lately, there has been a frequent shortage of coke in the tuyere area of these furnaces, and severe slag buildup has occurred there. I would like to ask the experts: what could be causing this problem?
I’m not sure what the exact composition of the raw materials you use is; the issue of insufficient coke in the furnace is likely related to various factors, such as a low coking rate or a low material level, among others.
The overall reason can be attributed to low focal length.
There are many reasons for the lack of focus at the 3# scattered tuyeres: firstly, the focal length is too low; secondly, the focus moves upward and the temperature at the top of the furnace is too high; thirdly, there are issues with the quality of the coke; and also, there may be slag formation in the middle part of the furnace.
How can I determine if there is a lack of focus at the air inlet?
A normal tuyere should be filled with hot coke; a lack of sufficient coke means the tuyere is short of coke.
Defocus and slag type issues might be more significant
There must be severe furnace caking, which is related to the slag type.
The three intermediate products produced by the bottom-blown furnace – crude lead, high-lead slag, and sulfur dioxide – all need to be controlled. Among them, the slag type of high-lead slag has a significant impact on blast furnace production.
Due to the formation of central slag buildup, the material column cannot enter the space below where the slag buildup exists during its descent, resulting in a lack of coke at the tuyeres!
There are many reasons for lack of focus at the tuyere. The direct causes include: first, an excessively low focal length; second, a low material column; third, an upward shift of the focus, resulting in an elongated focus area and excessive temperature at the furnace top; fourth, severe slag accumulation in the middle part of the furnace, as well as uneven feeding due to voids in the furnace top. Indirect causes: first, there are issues with the quality of coke; second, there are faults in the feeding system; third, there are significant variations in the composition of high-lead slag, and so on. Also, the control of the slag level and lead level inside the furnace is inadequate; the type of slag is not suitable, and the levels of slag and liquid fluctuate constantly.
