The heat tracing used in our factory does not have a water trap, nor does it have a water trap on the main pipe. I would like to ask if the resistance of the heat tracing is different depending on the length of the heat tracing. Some pipes may return water or steam, and if they are collected together, water hammer will occur.
I have been engaged in production technology in the north for more than ten years. I have renovated and designed the heat tracing systems of two units in our factory. According to my experience, each heat tracing must have a water trap. First, it can avoid water hammer in the condensate line. Second, it can avoid shortcuts caused by steam and cause "short circuits." Third, it can avoid waste of steam resources.; In addition, attention should be paid to avoid "branching" of heating, "climbing" of heating for too long, and "sharp turns" of heating to prevent the heating from not being hot.
Set up a water trap at a low position, otherwise it cannot be used even if water hammer safety is not considered, because the diameter of the heating pipe is usually very small and the steam path will be blocked by condensate.

According to the specification, each heat tracing pipeline must be connected to a drain at the end.

Personally, I think there should be. If the return water pipeline has a slope, it will inevitably accumulate water and hinder the passage of steam, unless the return water is discharged on site.
