An electrolytic cell has its maximum current density that it can withstand. Higher is not better. Of course, the electrolysis efficiency is the best at the rated current density.
Low current density has low current efficiency, and too high current efficiency also has low current efficiency. There is an optimal current efficiency. You probably have relatively low current efficiency.
