The principle of the slurry-based granulation process is that a portion of the basic fertilizer used for granulation is fed into the granulator in the form of a slurry. This slurry can be a urea solution or melt (with a urea concentration of over 95%), or it can be an eutectic compound formed from a urea solution and potassium chloride (or potassium sulfate). Within the granulator, this slurry, along with phosphorus sources such as calcium superphosphate and ammonium phosphate, as well as potassium salts (potassium chloride or potassium sulfate), is applied or combined to form pellets.
