What are metric threads? What is the difference between them and regular threads?

Metric threads are typically expressed in international units, with the unit of measurement for their specifications usually being mm. Plain threads are a commonly used type of metric thread, with a thread pitch angle of 60 degrees; there are also trapezoidal threads, rectangular threads, etc. For example, M20 denotes a plain thread with an outer diameter of 20 mm and a thread pitch angle of 60 degrees.
