There is a gas that needs to be cooled; for a shell-and-tube cooler, is it better for the gas to flow through the shell side or the tube side? Explain the reason.
The gas flows through the shell side; this is what I’ve seen most often. It’s likely that the condensed gas, flowing through the shell side, has to travel a longer path, and thorough condensation also makes it easier to clean the shell side
I think the medium (gas) that needs to be cooled should flow through the tube side, while the coolant should flow through the shell side. This is determined by the structure of the tubular heat exchanger. For specific details, refer to the standard **GB151-1999 Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers**.
Personally, I think the gas should flow through the tube side while the coolant flows through the shell side
The gas should flow through the tube side, as this allows it to absorb heat effectively; if it were placed in the shell side, heat transfer would certainly be poor. In summary: gas flows through the tube side, and the liquid flows through the shell side
In terms of cooling alone, it is best to use the shell side as long as the temperature of the cooling medium is higher than the ambient temperature; however, sometimes factors such as condensate must be taken into account, which forces the use of the tube side
The pipe system used is excellent, especially in environments with corrosive gases, as it facilitates material selection and saves costs.
