The desorption tower of my unit has reduced diameters at both ends; I’ve asked many people but no one can explain it. Is there anyone knowledgeable who can answer me? Thank you!
It is very likely that the vapor load at the upper part of the tower is low, resulting in no product being produced at the tower top, or the product flow rate is low; therefore, a tower with tapered ends was designed.
Friend, is your desorption tower a distillation tower? If it were me, I would give the following explanation to my friend’s question! Refrigeration section diameter reduction: According to the design of the distillation tower, the diameter of the refrigeration section is determined by dividing the gas-phase load (V) by the empty-tower gas velocity (U)! So it might be because the gas-phase load of your equipment is lower! Reactor bottom diameter reduction: This is determined based on the measurement range of the instruments and the model of the reboiler! 1) The most straightforward way to observe the diameter reduction at the bottom of the tower is by using the same amount of each component; in that case, the liquid level at the bottom of the tower will change! For heat-siphon reboilers, there are requirements regarding the level of the liquid in the tower bottom! (Being tall isn’t good, and being short isn’t good either.) The above are the explanations given by my teachers and mentors during my school days and at work! In my opinion: 2) Another purpose of the reduced diameter at the bottom of the tower is to allow for a sudden expansion as the gas phase rises, thereby causing the liquid carried in the gas phase to fall back down into the bottom of the tower!
