Question: The refractory bricks inside the gasification furnace have not yet been installed completely, and the construction site is facing freezing conditions; it is necessary to heat the furnace first, and then continue with the installation work after the freezing subsides next year. Will this affect the lifespan of the furnace? What conditions must the drying oven meet as well?
There are two options: 1. Remove the bricks that have already been laid and lay them again next year; 2. Continue building the furnace while also adding heating to maintain the temperature inside it and prevent freezing.
The furnace builders and refractory brick manufacturers should have experience in winter construction; it is best to lay the bricks first.
It should be completed; first of all, each furnace brick needs to be laid so that they form a cohesive unit, with expansion joints left in place. If the construction isn’t finished yet, then the furnace should be heated – the bricks will expand when heated, and when they cool down, the expansion joints will change in size. When you start building again next year, the expansion joints between the newly laid bricks and those that were already there will definitely become larger, resulting in a poor overall structure for the furnace bricks. This can lead to air leakage through the refractory bricks after materials are added, causing the furnace walls to overheat.
If the furnace rotation structure has already been built, but it’s been over two months now, and the furnace isn’t ready for use yet – does this have any impact on the furnace rotation? What do everyone think?
Back to upstairs: Since refractory materials such as fire bricks and castables undergo phase changes, thermal expansion, dehydration reactions, and mixing reactions during heating, it is necessary to bake the gasification furnace lining as required after its construction, in order to prevent deformation, cracking of the lining, or even damage to the furnace itself. After the furnace is built, it must be dried in the air for 7–15 days before being baked. If the furnace is not heated for an extended period after construction, the longer drying time of the lining can lead to quality issues regarding the bonding strength of the mortar. Therefore, the furnace construction and heating plans need to be considered together.
