I’m a beginner; I often see the term EPC bidding. What do E, P, and C stand for in this context?
Engineer, purchase, construction – an EPC project is essentially a turnkey project that involves design, procurement, and construction. Foreign engineering companies often take on EPC projects, while in China it is mainly design institutes that handle such projects
Engineering (design of projects), Procurement (purchase of equipment), Construction (management of construction work). Engineering refers to the act of “designing”. When interpreted as “design,” Engineering has a very different meaning from Design, which can also be understood as “design.” Generally speaking, Engineering refers to the design of machines, equipment, devices, systems, etc., in terms of their mechanisms and processes, based on scientific and engineering principles related to manufacturing, processing, and other areas ; Design refers to the planning of the space within buildings and structures, the arrangement of their functions, the connections between various components, as well as the aesthetic and artistic treatment of their appearance. It can be seen from this difference that design-bid-build contracts are generally not suitable for the procurement of construction projects. Design, Procurement, and Construction (EPC)/Turnkey project contracting means that the general contractor, in accordance with the terms of the contract, is responsible for the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the project, and bears full responsibility for the quality, safety, timeline, and cost of the contracted work. This is the model used by foreign engineering companies (referred to as design institutes in China) to carry out projects for clients, with them being responsible for all three phases ; Many companies in the domestic market operate using this model as well, and they are doing very well.
I didn’t understand either; now I know, thank you
