How is the design pressure of pressure vessels determined? Is it generally several times the pressure of the storage medium? Thank you!
Generally 1.1 times the working pressure
Process requirements + instructions + experience: Sometimes, equipment engineers make mistakes when selecting equipment, resulting in generally high pressures
Generally, 1.05 to 1.1 times the working pressure is used; as for why this multiple is chosen, it requires an explanation from a process engineer.
It only needs to be higher than the maximum operating pressure; generally, 1.1 times the maximum operating pressure is used. Additionally, considerations must be given to the customer’s requirements as well as the properties of the medium and its state
It is generally determined using the method mentioned for floor 4.
GB150 specifies that it is generally taken as 1.05~1.1 of the working pressure
The design pressure refers to the maximum pressure specified at the top of the vessel, which, together with the corresponding design temperature, serves as the loading condition; this value is not lower than the operating pressure. General principles for design pressure: 1. The design pressure of a vessel is not equivalent to its maximum operating pressure; however, the design pressure is generally set to be slightly higher than or equal to the maximum operating pressure. 2. For pressure vessels equipped with safety pressure relief devices, their design pressure shall not be lower than the opening (setting) pressure of the safety valve and the burst pressure of the rupture disc device. 3. For containers holding liquefied gases without insulation, the design pressure (maximum operating pressure) must be not lower than the saturated vapor pressure of the liquefied gas at 50°C ; Those equipped with reliable insulation shall have a design pressure not lower than the saturated vapor pressure at the highest temperature measured during testing.
Please refer to Table 4-1 in 4.0.3 of HG20580 – Basic Provisions for the Design of Steel Chemical Containers. There are various rules for selecting design pressures
It should be 1.1 times higher than the highest pressure at work
There is a clear answer on page 6 of HG20580! ! ! The design pressure selected in each case is different! ! You’d better take a look for yourself! ! !
