There are two types of crucible lids used for measuring the volatiles in coke: one type has two notches on it, while the other doesn’t have any notches. I’m not sure which one is the correct one to use The national standard only describes it as having a tight-fitting lid, but it’s not clear from the provided images whether there is a notch or not, which is quite confusing.
Volatile matter analysis is carried out by heating under air-free conditions, and of course, the lid used for the crucible should be one without any gaps
The determination of volatile matter is a conditional test, so it must be carried out strictly in accordance with national standard conditions; otherwise, the errors will be significant.
Both are specialized crucibles for measuring coal volatiles; the one with a notch is used according to the old standards set by the Ministry of Coal. The version without notches is the one specified in the current GB standards. One has a notch and a capacity of 25 ml, while the other has a capacity of 20 ml; their dimensions are different.
