If the medium in the pipeline flows in reverse, will the flow meter still detect flow?
It depends on the type of flow meter you are using; I think that flow meters such as electromagnetic flow meters and ultrasonic flow meters will all provide some indication, though it may be inaccurate or the reading may be on the low side. A differential pressure flow meter will not give an indication, or it will display a negative value.
There is still some flow, but the differential pressure transmitter does not produce any output. Electromagnetic flowmeters inherently have functions for displaying reverse flow and for accumulating flow data, while ordinary accumulators do not provide such functionality.
