The butt joints of the stainless steel pipes welded by the welders in our factory were primed by argon arc welding. There is a layer of slag at the root of the weld. It is black and very hard and cannot be removed without a hammer. May I ask why this is the case? There should not be slag in argon arc welding. If there is slag, it should float up to the surface.
There should be no slag during wire welding. Is yours an oxide? Stainless steel is prone to oxidation at high temperatures and needs to be treated with protective gas on the back.
Check to see if the flow rate of the shielding gas meets the requirements. If the gas protection is incomplete, the color of the stainless steel weld will be black.
Does welding of stainless steel pipes also require back protective gas?
There is no welding slag during argon arc welding, but there must be floating rust on the inner wall of the pipeline. If you are not willing to use steam or water cleaning and purging, you can also use blasting and purging to remove the floating rust.
If you use flux-cored wire for argon arc welding, there should be welding slag.
