Hello everyone! I have a question I’d like to ask for your advice. A methanol storage tank in one of our facilities uses a Kelon guided-wave radar (with a steel cable) to measure the liquid level. I’m not sure if it’s due to the internal floating disk inside the tank, but the level readings provided by this radar are quite unstable during normal filling operations. From the trend charts, the level fluctuates by 500–2000 mm every minute or so; this seems abnormal for a tank with a diameter of around 10 meters and an internal floating disk. We have checked the insulation of the wiring, the safety barriers, as well as the DCS channels, and everything appears to be fine. Initially, we suspected interference, but the surrounding equipment (mainly motors, etc.) isn’t operating when these fluctuations occur. Could anyone help analyze this issue?
The lower end of the Corong guided-wave radar steel cable should be fixed; the fluctuations that occur when charging the tank might be due to the lower end coming loose.
It was because the bottom end was not secured during installation; the impact when filling the medium caused the guided wave steel cable to swing, resulting in fluctuations in the measurements.
Because the weight attached beneath the guided wave radar cable was not secured properly during installation, the cable swung back and forth as methanol was introduced, which is why the fluctuations were not severe. Another thing is to check whether the hammer will fall off
If it is a new device, the lower end is likely not secured, which causes the steel cable to swing during measurement. In the case of an old device, it’s possible that the weight at the lower end has fallen off and cannot be fixed, resulting in the steel cable swinging after filling with liquid and leading to inaccurate measurements.
