What equipment do the various letter symbols in the process flow diagram represent?

In process flow diagrams, one only knows the types of equipment corresponding to some simple letters, such as reactor – R, heat exchanger – E. I’ve looked at a few flow diagrams and was asked to count the number of each type of equipment; there are indeed some letters whose corresponding equipment types I am not aware of. The best approach is to read carefully the legends in the design specifications; the symbols used in most legends are consistent, but different design institutes have varying conventions.
