The electrode tube of the electric furnace is made from a combination of cold-rolled steel plates and carbon steel bars. During the production of calcium carbide, under the action of the arc, the electrode tube and the electrode paste are consumed; typically, 20–30 kg of carbon steel is used per ton of calcium carbide. At high temperatures, iron reacts with substances such as SiO2 in limestone to form ferrosilicon, which is then enclosed within the calcium carbide.

3# YBTYXM I’ve found out that ferrosilicon is simply silicon iron. I would like to ask further: you mentioned that ferrosilicon is formed under specific conditions in an arc, with the presence of silica, iron scrap, and carbon. So, is ferrosilicon formed in the oxythermal method as well?
