Is it necessary to install a temperature control valve at the inlet of a plate heat exchanger? Can one not be uneasy?
Like shell-and-tube heat exchangers, whether a temperature control valve is installed depends on the process requirements, and is unrelated to the type of heat exchanger itself. Furthermore, since the channel cross-section of plate heat exchangers is relatively small and narrow, they are prone to scaling and blockage. Therefore, pressure gauges are usually installed on the pipes at both the inlet and outlet sides of the plate heat exchanger, so as to monitor changes in the pressure drop across the exchanger. When the pressure drop becomes high, it is necessary to stop the operation promptly for cleaning.
We use a three-way temperature control valve; by setting certain parameters, it prevents heat transfer when the temperature is within normal limits, and enables cooling through the heat exchanger when the temperature exceeds that limit!
Generally, a temperature control valve is not required, unless the process demands high precision in temperature control.
