Hello everyone: My current workplace is planning to upgrade and increase the production capacity of one of its facilities next year. I have been assigned to the project team, in the construction group. Since I have not worked on this facility before, I am not yet very familiar with the processes and operations involved. In the past, I have worked on a small project, mainly dealing with piping work, drawing schematic diagrams, providing technical instructions to the construction crew, submitting material requests, and overseeing the construction to ensure its quality； For this renovation project, the single-line diagram was prepared by the design institute; I’m not sure if I need to prepare the as-built drawings as well Will it still be the construction company to cover it? Without a good grasp of the techniques, one always feels uncertain when carrying out construction work!
I have worked on several technical renovation projects. For the owner, the key is to supervise the construction process in order to prevent any omissions. The design firm responsible for such projects prepares the drawings, and the as-built drawings are also created by the same design firm; there’s no need for the owner to worry about that. In technical renovation projects, it’s common for pipes not to be properly connected, or for some connections to be missed, or for design errors to occur. Therefore, it’s essential that the owner’s technical staff conduct regular inspections on site, identify any problems, and prevent issues such as pipes being left unconnected. These problems are frequent in technical renovation projects, and I hope you will pay attention to them. You also need to be familiar with the process; otherwise, you won’t know how the pipes meet.
