How can two gate valves be mechanically interlocked directly? What is the interlocking principle?

The purpose of mechanical interlocking is to prevent errors that may occur during manual operations on site. The basic principle is that when the fluid media in two or more pipelines cannot mix with each other, there is a certain sequence in operating the manual valves. Mechanical locks are installed on the valve stems and covers of the sequence-controlled manual valves; two keys must be inserted to operate them. After the switching state is changed, one key can be removed to operate the next valve. It establishes control over the sequence of valve operations to prevent misoperations.
