When using Tasc to calculate shell-and-tube heat exchangers, a warning appears in the calculation results: Tasc+ has calculated a total of 168 tubes, which differs from the actual number of tubes, which is 120 as you entered. These tubes are used to determine the heat transfer area, as well as the heat transfer and pressure drop values. My question is: if 120 tubes were specified during the calculation, what does this figure of 168 mean? Is it the maximum number of pipes that can be arranged within the specified shell diameter? I tried changing the number of tubes to 168; the calculated margin was too large, and it’s very difficult to adjust the balance as suggested. Please give me some advice, friends. Thank you.
The system generates 168 tubes, which is determined based on the heat exchanger structure parameters you enter; since you specify the inner diameter of the shell, the plate spacing, and the tube diameter, the number of tubes is thus fixed at 168. But from a technical perspective, the 120 units of area you set manually might be sufficient. Since the value you enter differs from the computer’s calculation result, the computer will issue a warning. Or rather, there are contradictions among the values you have entered. Or anything that does not conform to the norm. The computer then issued an alarm. Generally speaking, your situation indicates that the inner diameter of the heat exchanger shell you chose is too large; there is no need for a heat exchanger with such a large diameter. What the computer is trying to convey is that the number of pipes does not need to be increased any further.
